There is a wonderful quotation from Thomas Merton about listening to the voice of rain. It ends with the words �and I will listen�. Yes, I have used this complete quotation at least twice before with my calligraphy. This time however, I wanted to listen to the babbling of a river. The words in this watercolor are: current, rock, water, and shadow. This work was also my first effort to make a stretched watercolor on stretcher bars, which allowed for a larger scale painting. The piece is 56� X 24�.
Living in Arizona, I have missed the brooks of the Snowy Range just east of my home town of Laramie, Wyoming. I hope the painting will remind you to listen as well.

Lettering Art by Sid Freeman �After 20 years as a professional calligrapher, I found myself competing with the computer. This was not fun and slowly I worked back to my roots as a painter only this time using those magical sound symbols which make up our speech.� Receiving her MFA from the University of Wyoming and then working in advertising Sid Freeman became enamored with calligraphy. With the help of the Wyoming Arts Council grant money she began to study with many incredible professionals as well as taking workshops from the Colorado Calligraphers� Guild.
