Artist's Description

I was inspired by an interesting piece of jewelry, which I finally bought. The beautiful necklace was made by Patty Hoisch. It contains a silver lantern with a crack on it’s underside and two feathers one on each side. The flame from the lantern represents human insight or mind and the feathers are a symbol of protection for the mind. I have noticed that we are in a society which persons of great integrity and strong belief systems will perhaps accidentally become very judgmental. This is sad to me and because they are not protecting their own lantern light. And so, the words I have used here are: integrity and ego. I had fun using watercolor and pencil here. I love drawing because it’s the first media we use to begin seeing light rather than things.
I never want to forget how to draw. I hope you enjoy this. Thanks.

This was not fun and slowly I worked back to my roots as a painter only this time using those magical sound symbols which make up our speech. Receiving her MFA from the University of Wyoming and then working in advertising Sid Freeman became enamored with calligraphy. With the help of the Wyoming Arts Council grant money she began to study with many incredible professionals as well as taking workshops from the Colorado Calligraphers Guild. In 1987 she became self employed and enjoyed doing great jobs like the Wyoming Governors Awards and Federal Marshals Proclamations. In 1993 she and her husband,...
