Artist's Description

This painting was an effort for me to simplify and create visual impact. That succeeded, however with a loss of word understanding. For me art should be a balance of three elements, all at their best. Firstly, the artist which brings motivation and skill. You would think that would also be the meaning, but with luck and watchfulness, the painting begins to tell the artist what the meaning is, if the skill is at its best. Secondly, the media. Yes, if the artist doesn’t respect the media, then the media can not be its best. Thirdly, the subject matter. Same problem with respect of its unique rhythm. I have never really considered myself to be an “artist”. Because that would mean I make “art”. I am a painter, working at “art”. Somewhat like being a lawyer, working at “law”. But, I will never know if I ever make “art”. Artist is a label society demands or they think you paint houses. Something which takes more skill than I can muster. Only time and cul...

Lettering Art by Sid Freeman �After 20 years as a professional calligrapher, I found myself competing with the computer. This was not fun and slowly I worked back to my roots as a painter only this time using those magical sound symbols which make up our speech.� Receiving her MFA from the University of Wyoming and then working in advertising Sid Freeman became enamored with calligraphy. With the help of the Wyoming Arts Council grant money she began to study with many incredible professionals as well as taking workshops from the Colorado Calligraphers� Guild.
