This painting was inspired by a friend’s photograph, which she gave me permission to use. Well, you would never see the resemblance, but I thank her for the vision. The words included here are: sun, mentors, astroids, moons, and comets. The sun is dancing La Conquista of Mexico and she shines on the planets of the solar system, bringing life to all. We move to and fro in her rhythms, ever dependent on her great pull. I must admit as a calligrapher, that it’s the fabulous stripes in the fabric that I saw as lines on a page of writing that attracted me to this subject matter.
I am trying to move from the traditional calligraphic format of using words for documentation on a neutral background toward an integration of words and image. For now calling it “Image Poetry” where words do their own meaning. In making this transition my work has become more and more abstract.
