Description
The quotation on this painting is from R. Buckminster Fuller and reads as: I live on earth at present and I dont know what I am. I know that I am not a category. I am not a thing a noun. I seem to be a verb, an evolutionary process an integral function of the universe. If you have been looking at my work, you may have notice that I am a big fan of Buckminster Fuller. He was introduced to me by my design professor at the University of Wyoming, Victor Flack, who knew him personally. Fuller was a comprehensive designer and truly Renaissance Man of the 20th Century. Professor Flack brought him to the UW Campus. He would be speaking in a large lobby of the two largest dorms. Being a live at home student, I was sort of familiar with the dorm arrangement. My last class before the lecture was clear across campus and ending only 15 minutes before he was to speak. Needless to say, I was in panic and sweat mode when I arrived through the wrong door of the lobby. I was at the front and saw no empty chairs. I sat at his feet on the floor wow, he was speaking to me. What a lucky girl.
This painting started out quite experimental with watercolor board instead of paper; hoping to fine a way to go larger without paying a fortune for framing. I had glued 1 X 2s to the back to fake a stretched canvas look then loaded the top with beads, popcorn, buttons and what not for texture. Eek, big mistake! The whole thing warped badly. So, it went through many more wettings and dryings with weights and finally to my delight was pretty flat again.
Beside the textures and quote I have included the words: atom (eight rings for carbon) and cell (which partially discribe the figure). I hope you enjoy the piece. I would love to hear from you - thanks.
