Description
I suppose, like most artists, I look almost anywhere for inspiration. This painting came from the television. It came from the CBS Sunday Morning Show where they interviewed actor, Chris Parnell. This man is very humble and the interviewer noticed that he was giving quite a long list of people crediting his successes. The interviewer asked him about that and Mr. Parnell said, "It's not the kite. It's the air." An idea I continue to work with and is how this painting got started.
Now, there is a second part to this painting's inspiration and I have to pay credit to someone other than Mr. Parnell. In my trials of being an artist I had fairly recently been kicked out of a gallery which I had hoped to be in longer than a six week stay. After licking my wounds, I went back to the owner and decided to ask him as to the possibility of being included in an upcoming "woman's show". And to my delight, I will be included in this July show. He did, however give me two pieces of advice. One was that my work was too sophisticated for the average viewer. Well, I really questioned that but, I move on to the second thing he said which was that he wanted bigger work.
Bigger work - no problem. But, sincerity is essential for my growth. Even if I make a disaster, in order for it to speak to me, I have to give it my all. In other words, if it becomes too crowded with other intentions, like pleasing others, I'm sorry, I'm screwed from the beginning.
At this point my best option was size and visual impact. Did it work?
Usually I find a place for the inspirational quotation. But, where? I was going to call this "Lift". With the advice of some trusted friends, I choose to use the quotation itself as the title. Maybe a bit too long, that's okay. Thanks.
